Let’s talk about color palettes!
When we design a brand, there’s usually 6 swatches included in the style guide. That may seem like a lot on the surface but it’s important to think ahead and plan for the long-term.
In the future, you may launch products and services that you haven’t even dreamed up yet and having a palette in your back pocket that is ready to go as you diversify makes the process so much easier.
As an example, when I revamped the Branch palette earlier this year, I felt really strongly about adding in green. Though I didn’t have a clear use for it at the time besides an extra color way for print collateral, it represented growth (our mission is to help brands grow to new heights) and I knew it would get put to good use when the time was right.
Now that we’re launching strategy-based services, it made sense to use green as an accent to differentiate this services guide and marketing materials from the orange accents of our core design offerings.
When you invest in branding, don’t get overwhelmed by an extra swatch or two lurking in your palette. Just know that they’re there, waiting in the wings for when you need them.
